Blackjack Rules: How to Play? The game of blackjack is played by an untold number of players across the world.
It is a game of skill and chance that produces an exciting gaming experience. To join in on the enjoyment of this game, it is important to learn blackjack rules. Knowledge of the blackjack rules allows players to maximize their gaming efforts. Additionally, such knowledge will assist in preventing players from sustaining large wager losses (hopefully).
The game of blackjack is very simple and straightforward as far as game play is concerned. The object is to attain 21 or as close to this number without exceeding it. Each player is playing against the dealer (as opposed to each other). The dealer, like each player, is playing as well and has the same objective. The player, after the conclusion of all cards being dealt, that has a higher total than the dealer and doesn’t exceed 21; wins. If the dealer has a higher total than a player without exceeding 21; the dealer wins. If the dealer exceeds 21, then all of the other players win.
This is the basic play of the game. One of the first things associated with blackjack rules that a player should be aware of is the value of the cards. Each numbered card (2-10) represents the value it indicates. Every face card (king, queen, and jack) counts as 10 points. The ace is worth 1 or 11 points. During a game, if someone is dealt an initial natural blackjack (an ace and a face card or 10), that player automatically wins (unless the dealer also has a natural blackjack, in which the game is a tie). These are basic blackjack rules that players should be aware of to even begin to play.
There are a number of blackjack rules that players should be aware of, many of which are related to game play. Players should note, however, that many blackjack rules have different variations depending on the venue. As such, it is to a players benefit to check out a venues blackjack rules before play in order to become aware of any significant differences.
Some blackjack rules are more important to know than others. One such rule is when the dealer is required to hit. Most venues have a hard rule as to when a dealer will take additional cards and when the dealer will hold. This is the rule of whether a dealer hits on soft or hard 17. In fact, this rule will be posted on the table itself on what the dealer will do in this situation. Knowing this rule will determine playing strategy for players as they calculate how the dealer is going to play certain viewable cards.
Blackjack rules concerning splitting should also be reviewed. Most casinos have various differences in how they deal with double cards being split. For example, there are different blackjack rules for double cards other than aces being split and double aces being split. Knowing these differences is important in a player’s decision making when these situations occur.
These are only a small sampling of blackjack rules. There are many more. Knowing the blackjack rules, however, only serves to benefit the player.
